Foote-Jones/Illinois Gear (FJ/IG) is a perfect example of two great companies joining forces to become bigger and better than before. Illinois Gear became part of Regal-Beloit Corporation, a worldwide manufacturer of motion control products, in 1987 and Foote-Jones combined with Illinois Gear in 1990.
Founded in 1917, Illinois Gear manufactures large scale custom gearing up to 15 feet in diameter for the mining, oil, construction and steel industries. Foote-Jones, which dates back to 1859, manufactures helical, worm gear, shaft mounted, parallel shaft and spiral bevel gear drives for applications such as paper making equipment (measuring 300 feet long), rock crushers, forestry and mining equipment, to name a few.
The FJ/IG facility has been fully renovated and modernized and the company has added several new products. For example, the new Uni-Power in-line reducers are designed in double, triple and quad reduction for multiple industrial applications. In addition, the Ultra-Power parallel shaft and right angle gear drive product line features more power in a compact design and is used for heavy-duty applications like cranes, bucket elevators, and belt conveyors.
The company also offers unique, fast delivery programs on its standard product lines called Fast Foote and Big Foote. These programs have slashed the normal industry lead times by up to eight weeks. By focusing on the customer, FJ/IG has become the service leader in the industry.
Check our "What's New" section for our latest achievements. For example, the company recently created its largest gearbox in its history. Weighing in at over 12 tons, the 15 foot square gearbox was designed for use in a steel mill.
